Radio Club bullying

A friend has sent me this account. No names are mentioned, but it needs bearing in mind especially if you are considering joining this club.  I have published this as I think this sort of shit needs bringing to peoples attention.

I will print the account as it was sent to me and I may make a few comments at the bottom.

The Post author is unwilling to let this go and judging by the way he has been treated I do not blame him.

Certain folk from that groups have attempted many times to tarnish his reputation by flinging loads of mud hoping some of it will stick. Mainly to cover up their own shortcomings in my opinion. Well now some of that mud has stuck, but not to the intended victim, to the club doing the mud flinging instead.

Ham Radio and Bullying (Don’t Stand for It)

I was a member of a radio club in Leicester (Which I nicknamed “Leicester Backstabber’s Society”). I was constantly bullied for years by a couple of members at this club, who think they own it.

One member in-particular has constantly bulled me and it came to the final straw when he grabbed me and started to frog march me down the path at the club, but I turned around and went up to the kitchen window and sat down on a chair outside of it, he followed me and bent over grabbing the pipe that I smoke and snapped it in half and then while laughing gave it back to me in two pieces.

The club called a meeting and I have been told they will not have me back at the club yet the person that snapped my pipe is allowed to continue as a member.

During this meeting the chairman stated that I had telephoned the RSGB and made threats and used loads of foul language and that the RSGB’s Regional Rep had personally heard the said recording. Upon hearing this I called the RSGB General Manager who informed me they do not record calls, he said he would look into it and later that day telephoned me to state that the Regional Rep had not got a clue what I was on about.

I have sent the Leicester club a letter explaining this and that I would like a apology for the slanderous comments but they have not even acknowledged the mail let alone apologized.

This person has a very bad reputation (Or so I am informed by quite a lot of the club members) yet he is allowed to carry on bullying.

Bullying affects lots of young people and happens in many schools but it’s the way it’s dealt with which makes the difference between life being tolerable or a misery for many. 

A definition of bullying

There is no legal definition of bullying. But it is usually defined as repeated behavior which is intended to hurt someone either emotionally or physically, and is often aimed at certain people because of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation or any other aspect such as appearance or disability.

Bullying can take many forms including:

• physical assault

• teasing

• making threats

• name calling

• cyber bullying

Bullying can happen anywhere: at school, traveling to and from school, in sporting teams, between neighbors or in the workplace.

Bullying includes:

• people calling you names

• making things up to get you into trouble

• hitting, pinching, biting, pushing and shoving

• taking things away from you

• damaging your belongings

• stealing your money

• taking your friends away from you

• posting insulting messages or rumors, in person on the internet or by IM (cyberbullying)

• threats and intimidation

• making silent or abusive phone calls

• sending you offensive phone texts

• bullies can also frighten you so that you don’t want to go to school, so that you pretend to be ill to avoid them.

 

***UPDATE TO THE ABOVE***

Following yet another Committee meeting at the club, the Stand in Chairman stated after reading out my proof that the RSGB DO NOT record phone calls, the Chairman stated I was wrong because they Do Record calls, but due to data protection they can not tell me.

The chairman does not know what he’s on about as I have just contacted Steve Thomas again (RSGB General Manager) who informed me without a doubt that they do not record calls.

So I conclude that as per usual they are telling people lies as normal.

So be aware if you decide to join this club.

I did not witness these incidents, but I am not at all surprised to hear this from someone I know to be a truthful person. Disappointed in the club yes, which even after all these years seems still not to have grown up and are still acting like spoiled schoolchildren in a playground up to its old tricks. But no I am definitely not surprised.

Hang on a minute here though, this is not just criminal damage, which I understand the person has not denied breaking the property,  but if this person tried to frogmarch the site visitor of the premises and I have no reason to believe it is not true, then this is ASSAULT as well. What on earth are this so called club up to. This should not be what amateur radio should be about.

I was part of one of their training teams a number of years ago and the bitching and backbiting was still going on then and in the end I had a enough and told them to shove there training where the sun does not shine, as I no longer wanted to be associated to a training team that some of the senior members were doing their very best to undermine by spreading unfounded rumors.

In fact we had a very high pass rate supervised, I might add by the rsgb, which was obviously a set up. We were set up to fail and we didn’t fail, far from it we produced very good results and a high pass rate.

To my surprise and this was not my intention. When I told the club that I no longer wanted to be a trainer for them. The rest of the team also resigned their posts, as it seems they all had reasons of their own for no longer wanting to continue with the constant backstabbing at that club.

So in one fail swoop they lost a promising training team all because of their bullying. So I can well believe the contents of the above account. I will add that soon after this I resigned as club secretary and left the club as soon as I had finished up the outstanding paperwork and handed it to the assistant secretary I then turned my back on this club and walked away, never to return.

An observation is they seem to be trying to blame everyone/anyone else for their own shortcoming to disguise the fact that they are useless at what they do.

Contests was all they wanted to do when I was there, something I never have had and never will have any interest in. I have no regrets about turning my back on this failing club if these are the depths that they have sunk to.

Regarding this so called recording, it is just unsubstantiated hear-say as far as I can tell and is absolutely without merit.

If they have proof then let them produce it and that would be a totally different matter, but as I understand it this is nothing more than unsubstantiated and worthless claims with only the dubious word of the persons making statement to back it up. The worst part about this is some folk will believe these unsubstantiated claims, so this club is further trying to smear the author of this post without it seems any proof.

I would suggest you believe nothing this club says unless it is backed up with substantiated evidence, otherwise treat it as the lies it probably is.
